Aural Studio 1.1 support
Make the studio feel familiar.
Most Aural Studio issues can be resolved by checking the active layer, its control source, the audio route, and the part of the document under the playhead.
If you cannot hear playback
- Confirm at least one layer is enabled and its volume is above zero.
- Press play and check that the document position is moving.
- Raise the iPhone media volume gradually and confirm audio is not being sent to an unexpected Bluetooth or AirPlay device.
- Disconnect and reconnect headphones if the audio route changed while Aural Studio was open.
- Pause playback, close the document, reopen it, and try again.
Keep listening levels comfortable. Stop playback if a sound is uncomfortable.
Binaural Beat and Pan
Use stereo headphones so the left and right signals reach separate ears. A phone speaker or single-channel route cannot reproduce the intended binaural separation.
Binaural Beat and Pan are mutually exclusive on the same layer. If Beat is enabled, Pan remains visible but unavailable; disable Beat before enabling Pan. If Pan is enabled, Beat remains visible but unavailable; disable Pan before enabling Beat. Aural Studio shows an explanation instead of silently switching the other mode off.
Tone Filter
Tone Filter is visible on supported layers even when bypassed. Open it to enable or bypass the filter, select the response, and tune cutoff and resonance. When automation is active, the preview follows the response at the current playhead position.
Control Sources
Volume, Frequency, Beat Frequency, Pan, Filter Cutoff, and Filter Resonance can expose a source button when that value supports routing. Local means the value is owned by the current layer. Layer means another layer currently drives it through a mapping.
When a value is layer-driven, its local input and local automation are not selectable because they do not own the audible result. The editor shows the current resolved value instead. Use the source button beside the preview summary to inspect or change the mapping. Returning the value to Local restores its local editing controls and preserved local value.
Preview and automation
The layer preview shows the selected value over the full resolved layer duration. Drag the playhead to seek smoothly. Tap an editable chart to open its owner: the local automation editor for a locally owned value, or the Pan, Tone Filter, Beat, or Control Source editor when that surface owns the value.
If an edit sounds unchanged, confirm the layer is enabled, the selected value is locally owned, and the playhead is within the active lifecycle. Pause and resume playback if the audio route changed during editing.
Resonant Tide and other presets
Resonant Tide is the first pre-installed preset in version 1.1. It combines five surf-inspired layers and maps Rolling Waves Volume into Binaural Current Beat Frequency. Alpha Calm, Theta Drift, and Delta Rest remain available as editable starting points.
Documents, imports, and exports
Aural Studio stores your documents on-device. Save before closing a document, and keep an exported copy somewhere you control when moving work between devices or apps.
Only import, export, or share material you have the right to use. Aural Studio does not provide an in-app public sharing service.
